COMPONENTS ON COMPUTER MOTHERBOARD FUNCTIONS

Komputer_Motherboard or often also called the motherboard is a computer hardware part of the very main connect between hardware motherboard one with another. Hardware on motheboard boards such as Bios (Basic Input Output System), Chipset (Input-Output Connection Manager), Socket Memory (RAM), Graphics Card Socket (VGA Card), Socket Processor, and Additional Card Socket (Additional Card such as PCI and ISA)

COMPONENTS ON MOTHERBOARD AND ITS FUNCTIONS

Socket Processor / CPU Socket
Socket processor works for the place where the processor is installed on the motherboard. This stand is rectangular with small holes where embedded legs (pin-pin) processor arranged in the form of 2 dimensional matrix. the layout and spacing between holes exactly the order, location, and distance between the pins on the processor.

Socket processor or CPU socket has been widely used in computer world, to connect motherboard with processor. especially for desktop and server computers. processor in maxut here especially processor bersititektur Intel x86.

There are so many who produce motherboard sockets that use the PGA architecture (Pin Grid Array). on the socket is a lot of holes where ditancapnya pin processor located under the surface of the processor. Like some examples below the types of sockets that use the architecture:

1. Socket 5 which has 296 pin CPGA (Ceramic Pin Grid Array): This socket is used for AMD K5 SSA5 processor.

2. Socket A which has 462 pin CPGA: This socket is usually used on AMD K7 Thunder Bird (Athlon Thunder Bird) processor. actually own processor has 462 pin, 9 pin of which is closed. so it really only has 453 pins. this is the specificity and type of socket A (462 pin CPGA).

3. Socket A (EV6) which has 462 pin OPGA (Organic Pin Grid Array): An example of AMD processor that uses this socket is Athlon XP.

The cradle of the processor on the motherboard is not always a socket. there is also a slot. or it can be said slot based holder. the processor itself uses a slot-shaped stand, called Edge Connection. examples of AMD processors that use the slot architecture holder is AMD K7 processor (Athlon Argon, Orion, and Thunderbird).

Memory Slot

Memory Slot is a Gap or a place to insert enhancements on a motheboard such as RAM (Random Access Memory), or the like.

There are several slots that are usually available on the motheboard, among others:

1. AGP and PCI Express X16 slots.

a. The AGP (Accelerated Graphic Port) slot is a bus that is specially designated as a high performance graphics card support bus. which replaces ISA buses, VESA buses or PCI buses used. data transfer in AGP slot is faster than data transfer in PCI slot. on an AGP slot motheboard there is usually only one fruit.

AGP slot function is to distribute data from the graphics card to the CPU without having main memory. then from the process of graphics data processing can be accelerated. Another advantage of AGP is its ability to execute Texture Maps directly from main memory.

AGP has two different versions of the AGP 4X and 8X versions, the last of the AGP slot type is AGP 3.0 which is commonly referred to as AGP 8X. This AGP is separate from PCI and works or operates independently. AGP generally runs on 66 MHz buses, which is twice as fast as PCI running on 33 MHz buses.

b. PCI Express X16 Slot is a Slot for VGA Card, which is on the motherboard. began to be widely used when motherboards with LGA 775 processors (P4 and Seleron). and to date the VGA slot is still in use.

2. PCI slot and Express X1 Slot

a. The PCI slot is a multi-functional Slot, as very many computer peripherals use PCI slots. from start VGA, Ethernet Card, LAN Card, Sound Card, USB Card, and Sata Card.

b. PCI Express X1 slot is the same as PCI slot for its utility very much. but not many have used this slot.

3. IDE slot and SATA slot

IDE slots and SATA slots that have different physical shapes, but these two slots share the same function. namely to connect storage devices such as Hard Disk, and CD_ROM to the computer system bus. SATA stands for Serial Advanced Technology. while the IDE is called Parallel ATA or PATA.

SATA is a new setandar and SATA Drive is also faster than IDE Drive. over the years the IDE is the most commonly used Interface. but in early 2007, SATA replaced the IDE in all systems and became the new standard.

Interface ATA, ATA stands for AT (Attachment) where AT refers to the IBM PC / AT where originally created. evolved gradually from the original Western Digital Drive Drive (IDE) Interface. after the ATA serial introduction in 2003, the original ATA was later renamed to parallel ATA.

The physical characteristics of IDE slots are rather long, adjusting the physical condition of IDE data cables. while the SATA slot, the physical form is smaller. like the example image above.

 Chipset Bios and Battery Cmos
A. Bios Chipset

Bios (Basic Input Output System) is a program stored inside an embedded IC on the motherboard, containing a collection of various information about hardware that is connected to a computer and is a software that contains basic commands.

BIOS Chipset Function, to provide Instructions known as Power On Selft Test (POST) is a command to initialize the identification of system devices such as CPU, RAM, VGA Card, Keyboard, Mouse, Hardisk Drive, Optical (CD / DVD) Drive and other Hardware at the time the computer starts Booting.

There are several examples of Bios, among others:

1. Award software, which launched the Bios Award, Modular Bios Award, and Mendallion Bios Award.
2. Phoeniex Technologies, which launched Phoeniex-Award Bios.
3. American Megatrends Incorporated (AMI), which launched AMI Bios and AMI WinBios.
4. OEM Microid Research (Original Equeipment Manufacturer), for branded computers, such as Hewlett-Packard / Compaq, IBM / Lenovo, DELL Computer, and other OEM-Oem.

B. Battery Cmos

Battery Cmos attaches to computer motherboard. This battery has a function to set the date and maintain settings that have been set by the user or computer user so that does not change even if the computer has been turned off.

This also applies to all laptops, notebooks that also have a cmos battery inside. But if on the computer, cmos battery larger and easily replaced when it is out of life.

Power Connector

The Power Connector function is to connect the motherboard with the power supply. so that the motherboard can get Power / Voltage. Usually amounted to 20-24 pins.
I / O (Input Output) Port

This section we usually use on the outside of the computer case. Is a collection of ports as Input or Output computer data, consisting of USB Port, LAN Port, VGA Port, Serial Port, and PS2 Keyboard and Mouse Port.

Front Panel Cable Pin

The shape of the front panel cable pin is like a needle, used to attach the power button, restart, led power and led hard drive. To install these very small cables, we are usually assisted with readings around the front panel pins on each motherboard.

That's some components of the motherboard that need to know, hopefully adding knowledge in the computer world for all buddies. May be useful..
